According to Brett Lee, the legendary Australian fast bowler, apart from Jasprit Bumrah of India, pacers fail to execute good yorkers in the death overs.
This is an important delivery that one must master in cricket today as we now witness high scoring games like never before.
“Other than Bumrah generally speaking, we have not seen a lot of fast bowlers hitting their yorkers lately. I want to see more fast bowlers getting more yorkers out. Still the execution isn’t enough especially at the death end,” said Lee while unveiling Legends Intercontinental T20 league recently.
He further highlighted that it’s been economical for them with a strike rate below 100 consistently in IPL. Nevertheless, he recognizes that there are batsmen who play such innovative shots like scoop over the keeper’s head.
While I am all for batters smashing the ball all over, there has to be something for the bowlers too. Not asking for green tops where teams are bowled out for 110 because this is also not very nice cricket,” added former Australia international player.
Lee explained on winning scoreline saying “I think you want a good total and stuff around about that 185 mark up to sort of 230 is fine. We have had scores of 265, 270 and 277 now. It’s really hard because most guys these days are going at about 45/50 off their four overs.” He later added his words concerning Australia’s T20 World Cup squad by saying Lee also pointed out Brett Lee speaking on Australia’s T20 World Cup squad said David Warner deserves to leave on his own terms.
“David Warner has earned that right to go out on his own terms. And if things don’t happen for whatever reason, then he’s (McGurk) definitely there to take part,” stated Lee during an interview.
The Australian selectors have preferred experience with players such as David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh at number one. On the other hand, Jake Fraser-McGurk has been named as a travelling reserve.
Lee told McGurk to take his time in developing as a player. He said “I think if you go over there as a reserve batsman, you definitely have a chance to get an opportunity. That happened this year with Delhi Capitals; he didn’t even make the squad. Ricky Ponting rang him up late night and said come in and had a few injuries. So right time right place. But the advice to him and he articulated it beautifully to say that he’s only 22 years of age (araam se araam se). He’s got time. There’s no point rushing it.”
