Once again, on Thursday, Jasprit Bumrah displayed his exceptional skills hence proving how important he is to India’s success in this ongoing T20 World Cup.
His skipper Rohit Sharma called for a wise management of his key bowler in order to maximize his efficiency.
Bumrah gave away just seven runs by taking three wickets in four overs helping India to a start the super eight stage with a commanding victory over Afghanistan at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados.
India scored 181/8; then Bumrah-led Indian bowlers dismissed Afghanistan for 134 thus registering a 47-run win against them.
“We know Bumrah’s class and what he can do,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Reuters after the match, highlighting the team’s unbeaten run in the tournament.
“It is important for us to use him smartly. He is the one who is ready to take the responsibility (of leading the attack).”
In place of Mohammed Siraj, they went with Kuldeep Yadav so that they could create three-pronged spin attack. On more than one occasion, Rohit has talked about their willingness and ability to adapt their bowling combinations depending on conditions and opposition.
“We have to assess conditions, opposition and based on that we’re open to making changes if required,” Rohit said.
“We felt three spinners were good here. If it’s seamer-friendly next time, we’ll go with (three) seamers.”
India will play Bangladesh in their next Super Eight match on Saturday; they are looking forward to maintaining their winning momentum.
