By ousting Pakistan and Australia, India dealt with defending champions England very harshly in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup to win by 68 runs, making it three former title holders sent back home by this storming Indian side that will now play against South Africa in the final on Saturday in Barbados.
India defeated 2009 champions Pakistan during the group stage and 2021 winners Australia in ‘Super 8s’ thus leading to their eliminations from the competition. And when Rohit Sharma-led India did away with England also from the semifinals on Thursday, ex-Indian pacer S Sreesanth just could not help it but brutally roasted England out of excitement. “Revenge? Yeh to one-sided tha. Isko revenge nahi bolte. Isko bolte hai khushi khushi ghar bhejna,” said Sreesanth in a Star Sports video when asked if India have taken their revenge for the semifinal defeat in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
“Bhai ja ke training karo aur baad mei aao. Pakistan and Australia waise bhi ghar pe hain, jaa ke unse bhi mulaqaat kar lena,” he added.
Defending champion England won toss and elected to bowl first at Guyana probably due to heavy chances of rain affecting their run chase through DLS calculations. However, nothing like that happened as Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) and Axar Patel (3/23) dismantled them chasing India’s total of 171 for 7.
Rohit Sharma once again led Indian batting with his 39-ball fifty seven while being supported by Suryakumar Yadav who scored forty seven off thirty six balls. The partnership added seventy three runs for third wicket.
England began well enough in pursuit, reaching thirty four for one after five overs. Thereafter, they crumbled to the spin twins of Axar and Kuldeep losing nine wickets for sixty-nine runs thereby ultimately being all out at 103.
