In December 2022, Pant was involved in a horrific car accident that cast doubt if he would ever recover to his best for India because of what happened. His comeback was marked by a remarkable recovery and the T20 World Cup title won in the national colours.
Before playing in T20 World Cup, Pant made a successful return to the Indian Premier League.
Besides taking 13 catches and one stumping, Pant’s contribution with the bat yielded 171 runs during India’s unbeaten run in eight matches which eventually saw them win the title.
That is why the 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman can’t let his T20 World Cup winners’ medal out of sight.
Pant said on his social media post accompanied by pictures of himself wearing it: “This medal hits you differently.”
A similar post from Pandya on Instagram attracted funny replies from some of his team members like Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj who were also part of the T20 squad at the time.
Axar replied to him saying “Bhai same mere pass bhi hai (I have the same medal, brother).”
In a comment under this post, Siraj added, “@akshar.patel bhai mere pass bhi hai same (I also have the same).”
On June 29th at Kensington Oval Bridgetown Barbados India defeated South Africans named Proteas by seven-run margin as they set up target of 176 runs which they failed to achieve in their allotted overs being restricted at 169 for eight while chasing it.
The next day before morning hours on July 4th is when they are expected back home as per schedule.
