Ishan Kishan is a 25-year-old Indian wicketkeeper-batter who wants to secure his place in the national team despite tough competition. Following some recent exclusions, Kishan plans on being part of all the three formats.
“It was comforting to see Rishabh back in action. For me as a person, I like challenges and whenever I play against such kind of cricketers it makes my game better for me. And then you feel like you have earned this one. It’s not that easy I know that much. But even if you are satisfied with competition it gives you satisfaction. I enjoy it and it doesn’t create any tension or worry in me,” remarked Ishan Kishan during an interview with The Indian Express.
He has played two Tests scoring 78 runs with one fifty in them while his white-ball cricket totals show a lot of potential having scored 933 at an average of 42.40 in 27 ODI games including one hundred and seven fifties; he also has 796 runs at an average of 124.37 from six fifties in T20Is and has hit four centuries so far for the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). However, since November 2023 when India last played Australia, he hasn’t been selected.
Ishan Kishan however still hopes to represent India during their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka despite being left out for Zimbabwe series. Team India will be playing three twenty-twenty internationals and as many ODIs in Sri Lanka, where another consistent performance can get him picked.
“I see myself playing all three formats. I’ve done well even in T20Is, ODIs and Test matches too also.” He said expressing his desire to serve the Indian team across all formats.
Kishan’s philosophy concerning setbacks and opportunities forgone is one that insists on looking forward instead of backward; he focuses on improving his skills now and thinking about forthcoming opportunities.
“Keep yourself fit for the upcoming tournaments. I’m not too worried about the future. I want to be present in this moment. Right now, all that matters is how I can get better and become a completely different player from what I was six months ago. There are a few innovative shots that I would like to work on, also as well as my keeping area as well. Rather than looking at what has happened before or what will happen later, it’s important to focus on these things. The domestic season is not far away. If I do well for Jharkhand and then we’ll see.” He said.
Ishan Kishan continues to develop his cricket skills with a vision of representing India in all three formats of cricket one day someday in his life.
