Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player from India, is amazed at the decision of not picking Ruturaj Gaikwad in any of India’s squads to play against Sri Lanka in the forthcoming series. Both T20Is and ODIs did not have Gaikwad.
Chahal and Jadeja are also missing from the whole tour lineup, with this move also raising questions among fans. Pallekele will host three T20I matches starting on July 27 between Sri Lanka and India.
On Thursday, selectors came up with the 15-man teams for either part of the trip.In his YouTube video, Chopra aired out some reservations he had about these omissions. “Ruturaj Gaikwad has been left out in both formats. Why does Ruturaj Gaikwad not make it? You were eligible to become a skipper six months ago – you should know that your team had Shubman Gill who wasn’t playing but now he is deputy captain while Ruturaj doesn’t even find place in the side either in T20Is or ODIs. Is that right?” asked Chopra in that video.
His recent potential and leadership qualities lead to questions regarding why Gaikwad was not given a chance.
“The same thing; maybe the coach would be different at that time or selection committee would be something else. They might have done something but now they are looking for change. I really hope that it’s being communicated that he is being looked at for T20Is and will be considered for ODIs because, otherwise, Ruturaj Gaikwad like Sanju Samson will be very aggrieved. He might be feeling that he has been wronged,” Chopra went on.
Chopra also wonders what could have influenced selectors’ vision concerning Chahal’s and Jadeja’s absence.
“Yuzi Chahal also comes to mind. You were just now part of the World Cup. After that, you are nowhere. Ravindra Jadeja is also not part of ODI cricket. What’s happening there? He has himself retired from T20Is but would have been available in ODIs. If he is available and is not being played despite that, have Team India started looking in some other direction?” he said.
