The Indian side, led by Rohit Sharma, has not lost a single match in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, their winning sequence can be potentially spoiled this week as there is uncertainty surrounding their next group-stage game against Canada.
A report from News18 says that the scheduled practice session for Indian men’s cricket team at Florida on June 14 has been abandoned due to bad weather conditions.
This comes before the match with Canada set for Saturday at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill.
According to the weather forecast, it will rain and thunderstorm throughout the week which will affect fixture involving India, Pakistan, Ireland and Canada in Florida.
Lauderhill which is an hour drive North of Miami has had flood-like situations leading to massive disturbances. The inclement weather patterns make it difficult for cricket matches to continue especially those played within this area with Pakistan being hard hit hence chances of advancing are slimmer.
Before that game between Sri Lanka and Nepal earlier on Friday was washed out without a ball being bowled; and USA versus Ireland is scheduled for later. On Sunday, their meeting with Ireland at the same venue is crucial to Pakistani hopes so they can stay alive inside Group A.
So far, Indian team have won all three of their group stage contests in this ongoing edition of 2024 T20 World Cup.
Starting with an eight-wicket victory over Ireland, followed by a low-scoring six-run win against Pakistan in their next outing.
Subsequently they defeated USA by seven wickets at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York
India’s already qualified to the next round where they meet Australia on June 24th at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium St Lucia. This arrangement sees India and Australia placed together regardless of how they finish during previous rounds since such pre-tournament seedings set the Super 8 stage groupings.
On the other hand, the chance of Pakistan advancing to the super eight stage of T-20 world cup in 2024 are very slim due to poor weather forecast for their next matches in Florida. Importantly, it is in Florida where Ireland will play against the USA. If this match results into a tie, Pakistan will be eliminated from the tournament. To progress beyond this point, Pakistan must depend on Ireland’s victory over USA on Friday and securing a win against Ireland on Sunday.
