NEW DELHI: The year 2024 saw One-Day Internationals take a backseat for India, as the spotlight remained firmly on the ICC T20 World Cup and the race for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final. Following their runner-up finish in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they lost to Australia in the final, India played only three ODIs throughout 2024.
The sole ODI series was an away tour to Sri Lanka, which India lost 2-0. All-rounder Washington Sundar emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker in the series – and by extension, for the year – claiming five wickets in three matches. Sundar’s standout performance was his 3/30 effort.
Spinners dominated the charts, with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel tying for second place, each taking four wickets in the series. Both bowlers also recorded identical best figures of 2/33 and showcased remarkable control, maintaining economy rates below 4.
Mohammed Siraj, India’s pace spearhead in the Sri Lanka series, and all-rounder Riyan Parag rounded out the top five wicket-takers for the year. Siraj picked up three wickets across three matches, while Parag made a notable contribution by taking three wickets in the only game he played.
Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube were the other Indian bowlers to register wickets in 2024, with two and one dismissals respectively.
