The former captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has stressed the importance of the Pakistan cricket team focusing only on their forthcoming match against India in New York in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Their form can be judged from their poor performance since they lost 2-0 series to England under Babar Azam’s charge.
However, their attempt to gain momentum against one of the tournament hosts, USA, ended up with a shock defeat for Pakistan in a Super Over.
Inzamam drew attention to the significance of playing against India and noted that winning this game would help the team get more supporters back by its side.
“To win fans back, Pakistan need to win the game against India. It’s not like Pakistan cannot defeat India when everything is chucked out of them and focus comes on Sunday’s game. Everybody should believe that he/she can win this match. Everybody should try to win for Pakistan. Your body language changes and you have belief when you have confidence,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.
Pakistan’s showing at this edition of World Cup does not reflect their high-ranked status from last time as they were ranked seventh in T20I teams going into it. The fall down has been as a result of constant manager changes and an unstable lineup especially affecting middle order batters.
Shadab Khan who has been vital to Pakistan’s batting line-up lately has been off-color evidenced by his low run tally versus England and not being too effective with bowling either.
Moreover, Inzaman suggested that Abrar Ahmed should be considered for selection because all-round contributions are needed from every player. “Abrar should be given a chance but if six batters don’t score then seventh one will not save your game. Shadab is struggling with ball also,” he added.
