As of today, India and Pakistan have played only 15 Twenty20 Internationals against each other, the first coming during the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup in 2009. India has emerged victorious in 12 of these encounters while Pakistan managed to win only 3.
Since its inception when it was won by Great Britain in 1993, each of the two nations with CWI saw action against each other five times respectively each team winning as many as India again coming out on top. This contest, however, will take place for the eighth time on Sunday – during the ongoing 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.
This time, however, there is a new twist India began its 2024 campaign by suffering an embarrassing loss to New Zealand in Dubai the margin being 58 runs while Pakistan started with a win having whipped Sri Lanka in their first game by 31 runs.
India now find themselves in a position where it is either win all their last 3 games or be out of the tournament preliminary stage and qualify for the super eights where they must win all matches in order to qualify for the world cup in India. On the other hand, Pakistan will come out fresh from winning the Asia Cup edging out Sri Lanka and will be aiming to make things very hard for India when they clashed with each other.
Here is an overview of the past meetings between the two armies, this time, their women’s teams especially focusing on ICC Women’s T20 World Cup:
