Sanjay Manjrekar, former cricket player and cricket reporter, argues that India should focus on finding a balance in their playing XI (i.e. 11 players) based on conditions to win matches.
Within the group stage of the United States, India went for three frontline pacers and two spinners but altered this combination in the Super 8 stage against Afghanistan by dropping Mohammed Siraj for Kuldeep Yadav to add an extra spinner.
Different types of players were discuss by Manjrekar regarding what is available to India. According to him, it is necessary for a team to select the best possible combination according to the conditions in order to maximize their chances of winning. “I think it’s always nice when you have too many options and that’s just I think for any team management when there are very good options up for grabs. So I don’t think that’s such an issue but they have got to stick with what would be the best playing eleven in conditions which can ensure victories for India,” Manjrekar said ANI quoted him as saying via Disney+ Hotstar.
During the match against Afghanistan, Hardik Pandya played as third pacer while Shivam Dube gave an extra seam option. This indicated how much India were willing to adapt their tactics and find a good equilibrium based on pitch condition.
Accordingly, flexibility and adaptability are crucial factors in making selections for teams under different circumstances as pointed out by Manjarekar who believes will determine India’s success.
