With Saturday set to play host to the final match of The T20 World Cup 2024, it has come down to this.
Two sides – India and South Africa – have put in stunning performances all through the tournament and will be competing for the trophy.
With Rohit Sharma as their captain, India have been exceptional during this tournament with splendid victories over Australia, Pakistan and England among others, which would rather make them favourites against any team in this encounter.
They have had a great run thus far that has seen them win one-sided contests which is evident of their squad depth.
However, South Africa had a slightly tougher route here with many close shaves. In the group stages they had to face Bangladesh and Nepal and then a very close call against hosts West Indies in super 8 stage yet despite all these challenges Proteas are still standing tall securing a spot at championship match.
A former England player Michael Vaughan believes that if India wins all matches today then it could bring about a “trophy-winning spree” for Men in Blue as he posted on his official account on ‘Y.’ Meanwhile, Vaughan noted with pride that India has overwhelming numbers of talented cricketers who can replace any player from bench without loosing much quality.
“If they manage to get across the line today I think they’ll go onto win lots of trophies,” Vaughan wrote on ‘X.’ “There’s so much quality within and around this side. It’s ten years since they last lifted silverware though and winning here could see several more over coming seasons.”
South Africa however has an opportunity to break its long-standing major ICC events hoodoo when it gets into the finals. This is despite being good performers from time immemorial; South Africans are yet to pocket an ICC accolade hence if they were able win T20 WC 2024 then it will be historical victory for both players as well as fans who are always behind the team whenever they play.
Both teams have done incredibly well to reach this stage with great determination and resolve hence the final promises to be a thrilling one on Saturday.
