On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Conference ended in Colombo with a three-member team formed by the world governing body to review conduct of T20 World Cup which was held in Americas last month.
“ICC board confirmed that it will review the delivery of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be done by three directors namely; Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khwaja who will later report back to the board”, said an ICC media statement.
Through its membership criteria, ICC has given serious warning to USA Cricket and Cricket Chile on their status of non-compliance with them as memberships for one year. On this issue, the ICC has come up with a conclusion that neither of these Members have got a fit for purpose detailed governance and administrative structure and systems.
“ICC Americas office will work with Cricket Chile to help them remedy their non-compliance. The Board agreed that there should be Normalisation Committee that is inclusive of Board and Management representatives established to oversee and monitor USA Cricket’s compliance roadmap while ICC Board reserve its right to suspend or expel Member for continued non-compliance,” further stated the statement.
The Chief Executives’ Committee confirmed allocation of eight regional qualifying spots for Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 including two from Africa and Europe respectively, whereas one from Americas, and three from combined Asia/ EAP Regional Final,
According to its long-term strategic plan, the ICC has recommitted itself towards gender equality between women’s cricket and men’s cricket. In line with this commitment, the women’s t20 world cup 2030 will have 16 teams instead of present number twelve teams participating.
Besides, it also sets qualification cut-off date for Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier as 31 October 2024.This decision coincides with organizations ongoing attempts at growing and advancing women cricket across all continents globally.
In addition, International Cricket Council announced that Paul Reiffel, a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires has been appointed to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee.
