Once Rahul Dravid’s contract as the current coach of Indian cricket team expires at the end of T20 World Cup, Gambhir Gautam seems to be in pole position to take over as coach.
Also, he has indicated his interest in taking up coaching duties for the national team.
The BCCI is now looking for a suitable successor who will take charge when Dravid steps down after the global T20 tournament.
Speaking at an event in Abu Dhabi, the 42-year-old said “I would like to coach the Indian team. Our country’s team cannot be coached by anyone else. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well.”
Former skipper Sourav Ganguly had thrown his weight behind Gambhir to become India’s head coach as he stated that “he is a good candidate”.
Gambhir recently gave a talk about life to students at Medeor Hospital in Abu Dhabi where one asked if he could train them and leading them into winning a world cup.
But I have not answered this question even though many people have asked me about it. Now I am answering you.
Gambhir added “India will win the World Cup with prayers from all 140 crore Indians.” He also stated “If we start playing for them, representing them and people start praying for us then India will win any match they play. The most important thing is to be fearless,” Gambhir said.
In person Gambhir went over to check on sports medicine department of Medeor Hospital while in UAE.
During his visit, he met young cricket enthusiasts from various academies within Abu Dhabi and shared his journey so far with them including recent accomplishments.
Praised highly for his recent achievements with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gambhir was an integral part of teams that won both 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup for India.
“The only thing I did in KKR was following this mantra. A secure dressing room is a happy dressing room and a happy dressing room ends up in a winning dressing room. With God’s grace it actually worked,” he said.
