Yograj Singh who is the father of Yuvraj Singh and has been an ex cricketer of India has remarkably taken a dig at MS Dhoni for what he terms as his negative influence on his son’s sporting career. As he makes such comments, he should stand vindicated in some respects because this is a long-running feud that he has always had, and which he thinks harmed Yuvraj’s path despite how much he did for Indian cricket, especially during 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup under Dhoni’s leadership.
Over a span of 17 years, Yuvraj Singh was an international cricketer with remarkable highlights among which were contributing effectively in winning T20 World Cup in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011 for the nation India. In his final years, his appearances for the national team steadily reduced, 2014 being the last year he played in a match against the West Indies before his 2017 break. He blames Dhoni for this in saying that because of the biasness Dhoni had about the players.
In a recent interview for Zee Switch youtube channel with Yograj Singh, he made his emotions clear on the issue of Dhoni saying “ I will never ever pray for MS Dhoni pardon. He needs to introspect himself. He is a very big cricketer, but whatever he has done to my son, everything is coming out now, and what will happen never be forgiven in life, yes in life I have never done two things. First, I have not forgiven anybody if that person has done something wrong with me and second, I stun them in my life, if they are my family or hold my kids. That man (MS Dhoni) has ruined the life of my son who could have played four to five years more.”
Yuvraj Singh has cemented his status in the Indian cricketing history books with all round performance and collecting about eleven thousand runs with seventeen centuries and four hundred and two matches. He distinguished himself especially during the World Cup earned in 2011 edition by all round display of prowess. Yuvraj Singh scored a total of 362 runs with an average of 90.50 in the tournament and took 15 wickets and hence was awarded the Player of the tournament.
Yograj Singh has particularly praised the perseverance and toughness of his son especially during the time, Yuvraj was fighting cancer and playing in the 2011 World Cup. Singh also called for the government to present Yuvraj the Bharat Ratna citing his commitment to the national team.
“I challenge each one of you to reproduce a Yuvraj Singh in this world. Even Sankar would concur that Gambhir and Sehwag explained not being a Yuvraj Singh is a fact of life someday. He deserves the highest civilian award in India for willingness to fight with cancer for playing the World Cup for India,’’ Yograj added.
The point made by Yograj Singh has once again polarized opinions on the impact and direction of Yuvraj Singh’s career and relationships within the Indian team during the twilight period of his career.
