According to him, Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler who his teammate and former player Virat Kohli describes as ‘once in a lifetime’ kind of a bowler said they were living in a dream since winning the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah also had an excellent tournament. On June 29, Barbados saw South Africa lose to India on that day. And still he was able to earn 15 wickets throughout this tournament most of which came at crucial moments. He was India’s hero during this event as it marked their second and first title in 17 years respectively for T20s.
The award of the Player of the Tournament was given to Bumrah in recognition of his stand out performance.
“Thank you for these last few days. I have been living my dream and it has filled me with joy and gratitude,” Jasprit Bumrah has penned down on social media site X.The video shows all the events when he went around receiving awards including meeting with prime minister, Narendra Modi and open bus parade in Mumbai.
Kohli made a speech at Wankhede Stadium during the felicitation ceremony after their victory rally. A brief video clip taken early before that catched Kohl’s words: “This is one special fast bowler we’ve got.”
Bumrah along with Hardik Pandya saved India from certain defeat against South Africa by restricting them to 7 runs off the final over when they required just 30 more runs while chasing down an achievable target set by India. On that day, both players returned for their second spells at crucial times such as these. They were a changing point for both teams resulting into Proteas failing short of only seven runs.
In response to Kohli referring once again about Bumrah being once-in- a-generation talent, fans began chanting his name loudly as he walked away from the stage after saying this. “What I want everybody to do is give a huge round of applause to a chap who brought us back into games, time and time again. It was amazing. He is one of the all-time greats in bowling. I’m so happy he’s on our side,” commented Kohli, who, along with his captain Rohit Sharma, retired from T20I cricket after winning the World Cup.
