Gautam Gambhir, ex-Indian opener, emerged as one of the frontrunners to replace Rahul Dravid as head coach of Team India following the T20 World Cup. The reports suggest that the BCCI has approached Gambhir who is currently a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders
Each bitch Wasim Akram has his own way of thinking about how Gamlir might be a good fit for the Indian cricket side’s next head coach position adding that this postulate is true. However, whether it will be accepted by him remains a mystery.
Wasim Akram said “yes” when asked whether Gambhir was right man for the job.“It depends on whether Gautam accepts it”, he added. He also left politics because it was so time consuming. It is not an easy thing, he discovered. He has two very pretty girls.”
“GG is just so simple. Frank. Not complicated. But he talks straight and always says what’s in his mind without hesitation something which is not an Indian cricket culture tradition,” Akram said.“In our society we use words that are not offensive but GG is someone who says things to your face if they do not please him. That’s his quality that makes everyone love him too.He becomes aggressive at times but it’s just him. He’ll bring that same aggression to the team but all depends on whether he accepts.”
Gambhir, 42, has never worked as head coach either on international or domestic level before however he used to be a mentor in IPL.
He mentored Lucknow Super Giants franchise from IPL 2022 to 2023 where in both seasons they qualified for playoffs.
As a player, this left-hander opener played a role in winning T20 World Cup in 2007 and later he was there during ODIs World Cup win 2011. He captained KKR to wining two IPL titles (2012 and 2014) and runners up finish at the defunct Champions League T20 in 2014.
