There were many raised eyebrows when Rishabh Pant was chosen over KL Rahul as a first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman for India’s T20 World Cup squad, but it didn’t affect them as they finished unbeaten in the T20 tournament.
Late night of December 30, 2022, Rishabh Pant engaged in a high-speed accident on Delhi-Dehradun highway. Although he suffered severe injuries and his car caught fire, he managed to escape alive.
After a year of intense recovery and rehabilitation, Rishabh Pant got back into competitive cricket during this year’s Indian Premier League and returned to Team India for the T20 World Cup in the Americas this month. Not only did the 26-year-old make it to the squad. But also justified his selection with decent performances both with the bat and behind the stumps.
Rishabh Pant eventually became a winner of the T20 World Cup.
On Wednesday evening, Pant took to social media where he shared an emotional post that detailed his journey from a near-death experience to winning this highly coveted tournament.
“Blessed, Humbled & Grateful. God has its own plan,” added Rishabh Pant.
In eight matches he played so far in IPL 2021 season, Pant scored 171 runs at an average of 24.42. Additionally one stumping plus 13 catches were taken by him.
