Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer and cricket commentator has opined that the alleged comments by Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten after his side’s exit from 2024 T20 World Cup worked as ‘ghee on fire’ amidst ongoing controversies.
According to recent appointment of Kirsten as limited-overs head coach, he is understood to have said the team was disjointed in the wake of their poor performance.
“Gary Kirsten apparently said that the Pakistan team is not a team at all, they are looking to pull each others’ legs, there are groups created and everyone is divided, they play together but don’t do anything like playing together, it’s like five fingers which never come together to make a fist. It’s been said that he said that in the dressing room and that thing has come out,” Chopra posted in a video shared on his YouTube channel.
Pakistan exited the group stage of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with losses against co-hosts USA and India from Group A. Many ex-cricketers have spoken about how disjointed the Pakistani side looked.
Although Kirsten denied making those remarks, Chopra also commented that particularly after an unsuccessful campaign leaks can emerge in Pakistan cricket.
“But Gary Kirsten may say I’ve never said something like this; however when you talk about Pakistan cricket it always reminds me of one thing – success has many fathers whilst failure is an orphan. It worked like ghee on fire,” added the former India opener.
