If India are to play only two regular pacers in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, Anil Kumble, an ex-spin bowler of India, has advocated for Arshdeep Singh’s choice ahead of Mohammed Siraj.
Kumble is making his suggestion because Arshdeep Singh has been outstanding in the current ongoing competition. He has the best figures for 4/9 against the USA and also he bowls accurately at death over as demonstrated during their previous match against Pakistan.
“The way he bowled that last over against Pakistan and also how he can bowl in different areas just in a T20 game I think certainly puts him ahead of Mohamed Siraj if they ever go with that option of two seamers and Hardik Pandya,” said the Indian former coach ESPNCricinfo (as quoted by IANS).
The team management strategy and specific match situations will ultimately decide whether to pick Arshdeep or Siraj, or even choose a third spinner under such Caribbean conditions. The decision must be based on a careful analysis of the opposition, pitch conditions, and overall balance of the team since both have unique strengths to offer.
“So yes, in that sense plus he also gives you an extra variety with his left arm pace. So overall, he must be happy. And like Varun mentioned, he’ll be happy with the confidence that he’s got from this game,” added Kumble.
It is worth mentioning that Arshdeep’s performance against USA where he took four wickets showed precision undoubtedly raised his confidence levels hence sealing his place in playing XI.
