Pakistan’s ex-captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has sparked a new argument by accusing. Indian team of ball tampering during their T20 world cup “Super 8s” match against Australia on Monday.
This was after India had pulled off an impressive victory with a margin of 24 runs over. Australia at Daren Sammy National Stadium in St Lucia.
The former ODI world cup champion made claims about the unusual reverse swing that left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. Who had come back for his second spell in the sixteenth over. Reverse swing usually occurs with a used ball and Inzamam asked how the Indian bowlers were able to do it with a T20 match’s relatively new ball across an entire innings.
“When bowling the 15th over (16th) Arshdeep Singh was getting some reverse swing. Can you get reverse swing too early with a (relatively) newer ball? Was the ball ready for reverse swing by the twelfth or thirteenth over because. When he came to bowl, the ball started reversing. Umpires ko aankhein khuli rakhni chahiye (the umpires should keep their eyes open),” Inzamam said while talking on a Pakistani TV channel.
India ended up posting an intimidating total of 205-5 in their twenty overs due to captain Rohit Sharma’s scintillating innings of 92 off just 41 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire 31. Further, Shivam Dube (28) and Hardik Pandya (27*) added more valuable runs to India’s score. On batting-friendly pitch, Mitchell Starc (2-45) and Marcus Stoinis (2-56) led Australian bowlers as they struggled to contain Indian batsmen.
Australia could only muster 181-7 in their twenty overs while chasing 206. The highest runs were made by Travis Head who had a score of 76. Nevertheless, Indian bowlers especially Arshdeep. Who took 3-37 and Kuldeep Yadav, who had 2-24 ensured that Australian batsmen found it difficult to score. Even Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel got one or two important wickets each to keep India in the driver’s seat.
With a comprehensive all-round performance. India yet again underlined their status as firm favourites for the tournament and booked their place in the semi-finals. Where they will square off with defending champions England on Thursday at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
