None of these measures, however, helped to prevent the accident caused by the plane door falling from the airplane, which hit the Australian fisherman near South Broulee Beach in New South Wales. Friday marked the unusual incident at around 9:30 a.m.
On the other hand, Murphy Shaw, 22 years old neighbor of the city of Canberra was in water surfing, when it began. Talking to Daily Mail Australia, Murphy recounted how the door started dropping down in a very fast manner. “There was some activity going on in the water, and then for some reason I looked up, only to see this faster than decelleration door coming down rather fast,” Shaw narrated.
The door which fell off a little private airplane appeared to be especially for the beach preparing because there was only one fisherman and the fisherman was the only one on the beach. Pulled back by the line, the fisherman cast his rod again only to be interrupted by the surfers’ shouts at his back.
“We were like, ‘oh no, it’s headed for that bloke over there,’” Shaw comments. The door fell about twenty meters from the fisherman, who at this point seated himself without flinching. “He didn’t run for safety, he went on with fishing,” Shaw reiterated. “He didn’t really give a damn at all.”
Shortly after making a loud bang, the picture was quickly taken away by someone but brought back to the vicinity of Moruya Airport. A spokesperson for Eurobodalla Shire Council has confirmed that the door had come off the plane, however both pilot and passenger were able to make a safe landing.
In fact, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was informed about this incident but undertook no investigation into it, as there were no casualties. “It was considered to be pretty much impossible for obtaining some new safety messages out of this investigation,” ATSB spokesperson said.
