Rohit Sharma, the ODI skipper of the Indian cricket team, has started his training for the One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka that will start on August 2.
Sharma has been involved in indoor practice sessions netting his batting skills and posted pictures of him on social media platform X as proof.
Indian tour to Sri Lanka started with T20I series which began on July 27th. India won their first T20I by 43 runs. The second match was called off due to rain while a third T20I saw India win again by 7 wickets.
Pallekele International Stadium hosted the T20Is and later this month the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will host ODIs scheduled for August 2, 4 and Article continues below June 29.
After leading India to South Africa in winning the ICC World Twenty20 Cup at Barbados on June 29th, Rohit Sharma is returning back to Indian squad.
The batsman scored heavily throughout the tournament totaling to 257 runs over eight matches at an average of over thirty six and strike rate more than one hundred fifty six showing exceptional performance. His highest score was ninety two; he struck three fifties making him second highest run getter in tournament.
His last ODI appearance was during last year’s ICC Cricket World Cup finals played against Australia at Ahmedabad where India ended up losing. Right now, Sharma stands one knock away from several significant landmarks in his ODI career. Currently, he is just five runs behind Rahul Dravid who stands on fourth position among those Indians with most ODI runs scored till date.
This means he is only sixty scores away from going past former Indian cricketer turned coach Rahul Dravid as fourth most accomplished run-getter of all time amongst Indians playing ODIs for their country so far. So far he has played two hundred and sixty two matches scoring ten thousand seven hundred and nine runs at an average of forty nine point one two. His record also includes 31 centuries and fifty five fifties, with highest score of 264.
