Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar, has highly appreciated the performance of Jasprit Bumrah in India’s tense six-run victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup while at the same time subtly criticizing the Indian media for its focus on Virat Kohli.
India posted their lowest total ever against Pakistan in T20 World Cups – 119 – but it was Bumrah’s exceptional bowling that swung the game in India’s favor.
The match-winning spell by Bumrah gave him three wickets for 14 runs only and demolished Pakistan’s batting line-up ensuring a narrow win for India. Manjrekar praised Bumrah saying how he has been instrumental to India while often media focuses on Kohli.
“While Indian media obsesses over Virat & Co, Jasprit Bumrah quietly wins games for India single-handedly. By far the best player in the Indian team & has been for a while now. #JaspritBumrah #ICCT20WC,” Manjrekar wrote on X.
Kohli who has been India’s standout batter in previous clashes against Pakistan had an off day scoring just four runs. Manjrekar remarks highlighted Bumrah’s steady contributions more so when under stress moments are there.
During this match, which took place on a difficult two paced track, most of our batsmen struggled to get going. However, Hardik Pandya supported his brilliant bowling with figures of 2/24 as he helped India restrict Pakistan to 113 for seven from twenty overs despite failing with the bat.
Bumrah took three runs and dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed during his penultimate over thus leaving Pakistan requiring eighteen runs from Arshdeep Singh’s last over which he successfully defended to earn india a triumph.
