New Delhi: Legend Brian Lara want to Suryakumar Yadav No. 3 in the upcoming Indian batting line-up T20 World Cup In America.
Lala believes Suryakumar’s skills and abilities make him an ideal candidate for a key position in the team’s batting order.
The West Indies icon also expressed his hope of an India-West Indies final at the cricketing extravaganza.
In the recently announced T20 World Cup squad, the selectors picked prominent players like captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and decided to drop Shubman Gill Promising young talents such as Gill and Rinku Singh remain in the reserves. The swashbuckling Suryakumar has carved a place in the main lineup.
“One tip from me, and I don’t know if you like it, but Sky has to bat three wickets. He just has to bat three wickets. He’s one of the greatest T20 players in the game. You talk to a player like Sir Viv, he Will tell you that he once wanted to come out from the middle,” Lara said in an interaction with PTI editors at the headquarters, facilitated by Star Sports.
“I feel it’s the same with Sky. So, get in there as soon as possible. He’s not an opener, get him in and if he can bat for 10-15 overs, you know what will happen.
“If you bat first, he puts you in a flawless position, or if he bats second, he wins the match. Then let everyone find their place outside of that situation, but good structure Very important,” he explained.
Suryakumar usually bats at number four for India, while Kohli bats at number three. Kohli opened the innings alongside Rohit, allowing Surya to bat for three, an option that would leave Yashasvi Jaiswal on the bench.
“Find a way to get Suryakumar to bat at three,” Laura stressed.
Lara does commentary on the show intense pulsed lightsaid that India’s good performance may also lead to a showdown with West Indies in the final, which would make up for the disaster of India’s qualifier exit in the 2007 ODI World Cup.
“West Indies should do well. They have a lot of individual stars and when they come together as a team they do well. India, despite their displeasure with selection, find themselves in the top four name.
“England seem to love the Caribbean and often lie on the beach. England will be there, fourth, Afghanistan and they have the ability to get to the last four,” he said.
“The final between India and West Indies will make up for a lot of mistakes that happened in the past. India lost in the second round in 2007, which knocked us out of the Caribbean. We don’t want that to happen again. So, India and West Indies will be in the final, may the best team win,” he added.
four round strategy
The Indian team has selected four spinners including Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, the last two are all-rounders. Laura only saw a few of them playing in the eleven.
“As far as spinners are concerned, I don’t want to go too deep into talking about four spinners because I don’t think you can play with four spinners. But I like the presence of Chahal. He is not just an IPL player. Look at it. He, oh, you look at his brain behind the ball, his delivery, he thinks more than the hitter.
“Also, Kuldeep. So, I think these guys are going to get wickets for you and not just try to limit the battle or be afraid to bowl offensive bowling.”
When asked about the two finalists for the World Cup, Lara chose India and West Indies.
There has been constant talk about Kohli’s strike rate, but Lala feels the XI needs a player like him.
“You have to have a player like Virat in the eleven,” Lala added.
