The first press conference of Gautam Gambhir as Team India was held in Mumbai on Monday. The Sri Lanka tour begins on July 27.
He is a team player who always puts the needs of his comrades in front since he was a player and thus insists on taking the team ahead claiming that this is not less than inheriting a successful one.
However, instead of focusing on himself, he said, “Indian cricket as whole must get better; Gautam Gambhir is nothing”.
Gambhir will succeed the great Rahul Dravid, who led to T20 World Cup victory in Barbados last month at the age of forty-two.
Furthermore, commenting on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma opting out after T20 World Cup win (Gambhir), “This means that despite having only two formats to play for now – I hope that they will be with us most times in future – they have much more cricket to offer.”
Moreover, Gambhir says about Bumrah being rested for SL tour due to hectic schedule of Indian Cricket saying, “All fast bowlers workload management are very important so it’s not only for Jasprit Bumrah”.
Gambhir also stated that his relationship with Virat Kohli has been blown out of proportion by media houses.
Accordingly, Gambhir added these words. “We have had lots of discussions and everyone has the right fight for their jersey.”
During IPL 2023 campaign there were several incidents involving Bengaluru players and Coach/mentor for Lucknow Super Giants at that time, namely Gambhir but this season they appeared as though the past meant nothing.
Therefore Ravindra Jadeja has been rested only from SL series as per Gambir opinion indicating “hopefully we can do well in ten test matches and someone like Ravindra Jadeja is so important during those games.”
“Happy dressing room is always winning dressing room; sport’s all about winning-there’s only one winner in our profession” Gambhir said.
Gambhir included, “T20 team will go through a transformation but there will not be three different teams for different formats.”
However, he made it clear that he prefers things to remain simple and the BCCI had agreed to his requests. Gambhir concluded, “I don’t like complicating thing and ultimately it is player’s team with our job is to make players happy.”
“I’m grateful to BCCI; they have given me most things I wanted. Exact support staff to know after Sri Lanka tour,” concluded Gambhir.
