Sources say that during Pakistan toured England for T20Is before the T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies, there were heated arguments between pacer Shaheen Afridi and batting coach Mohammad Yousuf.
It is reported that both coaches and management staff made complaints to the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi about Shaheen’s attitude in the course of the tour.
Shaheen was told by Yousuf about his no-balls during a training session; this led to confrontation between them. Frustrated by constant criticism, Shaheen then asked Yousuf to “mind his own business”.
According to Yousuf, he was only doing his job as a coach; however, things heated up with harsh words being exchanged before Shaheen apologized later.
An ANI report informed Geo News that several sources within Pakistan team management acknowledged that it was quickly sorted out as one of those “heat-of-the-moment” events. One source referred to the incident as a common happening which did not necessitate further escalation or reporting to PCB.
After Pakistan’s poor performance at T20 World Cup where they were eliminated from group stage, Naqvi called white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten for discussions on how best they could move forward as a team. Earlier this week Naqvi met with former Pakistani cricket players for suggestions on improving domestic cricket structure.
