NEW DELHI: Pakistan’s win over Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday was an emphatic one by 6 wickets, which gave them a 2-1 win overall. After levelling the series by chasing down their opponents’ score of 178 by 193 runs with 3.1 overs remaining in the previous match, Pakistan had difficulty in surpassing Ireland’s total of 178 on Tuesday and achieved it with three overs still to go.
Pakistan was led by Captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan who had recorded a sensational second wicket partnership of 139 runs.
With Babar having scored 75 runs off just 42 balls while Rizwan clobbered his way through with just 56 from balls faced, their aggressive style brought forward another victory for Pakistan when consecutive sixes from Azam Khan at end sealed it.
Talking about the series, Babar Azam stated that it was a good practice before T20 World Cup next month.
Conversely, Ireland started well in their innings as Lorcan Tucker (captain) and Andy Balbirnie (opener) stitched together a fantastic partnership of eighty-five (85) runs for the second wicket. The best performance came from Tucker who made seventy-three (73) runs off forty-one deliveries followed closely by Balbirnie having added thirty-five (35).
However, Shaheen Shah Afridi took charge of Pakistan’s exceptional death bowling where he obtained figures of three fourteen (14) off four overs.
Having clinched the series, Pakistan now shift their focus to next Tuesday’s four-match T20 series against England.
