The 25-year-old left-arm fast bowler emerged as India’s highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup, taking 17 wickets and proving his critics wrong with his stellar performances.
Arshdeep’s way to victory was not without its difficulties. After dropping a catch against Pakistan in the 2022 Asia Cup, he faced significant backlash on social media. Reflecting on his T20 World Cup performance, Arshdeep expressed gratitude for the appreciation he received from legendary cricketers.
“It was truly unforgettable T20 World Cup for me thus; thanks to you all my beloved legends! My individual performance has been satisfactory but I am always looking for better opportunities so that I can contribute more towards my team’s victories,” he said.
He underscored how important it was to take lessons out of every match while focusing on refining skills that would be useful in upcoming events.
Arshdeep recognized that managing criticism amidst difficult moments is tricky.
“Facing criticism and tough times are part of any cricketer’s life. Irrespective of anything else around you at such high level playing for your country stage.” He stated
He credited those close to him – family members coaches friends etc – who had helped him remain centered through it all even when things were not going smoothly.
Arshdeep spoke highly of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, highlighting his calm demeanor and strategic thinking.
“Playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma has been an awesome experience. He lets each bowler have their freedom on the field. His calmness when in action and the way he goes about things are quite amazing,” Arshdeep remarked.
He appreciated Rohit’s ability to keep the dressing room atmosphere light and positive, especially in high-pressure situations.
Arshdeep reflected on the immense contributions of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to T20I cricket.
“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made a lasting impact on T20I cricket. Their contributions have been enormous, their legacy will be passed down to many generations,” he said.
He praised Rohit’s explosive batting as well as Virat’s consistent performances and relentless techniques towards brilliance.
“Their passion, dedication, and ability to perform under pressure have inspired many young cricketers, including myself.”
Arshdeep emphasized the invaluable support of his family during tough times.
“Family support is priceless when dealing with tough times. My family has always stood by me through thick and thin,” he shared
He highlighted how their belief in him gave him confidence to keep pushing onward continually against all odds.
When asked about his favorite match, Arshdeep chose the recent World Cup final.
“We won the finals last year that is one thing I will never forget; it was just like yesterday holding that trophy high above my head as we celebrated with my fellow teammates! It is a moment I’ll cherish forever knowing we made our country proud on such a grand stage,” he concluded.
