On the field, Rohit Sharma’s managing approach to Indian players is a combination of freedom and accountability. Supporting his calmness, it gives courage to his teammates to play their natural game while setting clear expectations. When necessary he provides constructive feedback, but through subtle yet telling reactions reveals more than words can say.
India’s star bowler Mohammed Shami brought this up during an award ceremony where he said that Rohit was a captain who allows his players a lot of freedom hence they can express themselves without negative pressure from anywhere.
“The thing about him is that you have so much freedom. They start showing some of his little reactions if you don’t come as per him. He will let you know that this should be done or should be there.” [The best thing about Rohit sharma is that he gives you freedom. On the other side, in case one does not meet his expectations, he starts reacting a bit. He will indicate to you that this was meant for you or something like it],” Shami said in one of the occasions when he made an acceptance speech.
“Thenceforth unless you jumped on it; then we see those reactions on screen; those ones which we just understand without saying anything start coming out,” indicated Shami.
Rohit created history by becoming only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win the T20 World Cup.
Under Rohit’s guidance, India registered a famous triumph thereby closing the drought ever since Dhoni won back in 2007.
India emerged victorious against South Africa in Barbados in an epic final and clinched the prestigious trophy.
