Aamir Ali recently re-visited his triumphs in the TV industry. Also, he stated that once the third series of reality dance show Nach Baliye was over (which he won with Sanjeeda Shaikh), a channel boss told him they were the biggest stars in the country for one night. After winning the competition, many Bollywood award ceremonies invited Aamir and Sanjeeda to perform; at one such event they had an encounter with famous film producer Yash Chopra.
During an awards ceremony, Yash Chopra asked Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh if they wanted to sit close to him:“Can you come and sit next to us?”
Aamir spoke about it during an interview with Siddharth Kannan: “It is just that we won Nach Baliye and I remember Uday Shankar coming up at the finale and saying, ‘Tonight, you are the biggest star in the country. Just for one night’. And they called us for all film awards that year. At Star Screen, I was put in front row. I knew we would be asked to move because Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan were right next to us which would be very embarrassing.” He also said: “Just as I was thinking about this, Yash Chopra came up to us. He said, ‘Son, Pam is a big fan of your work, she loves you,’ Can you come and sit with us?’ And then I thought maybe this could save me from being embarrassed by asking me off my seat? So we agreed joyfully. That was when… Yes film offers were coming my way but there was no way I wanted to live with uncertainty like those two-three years before.”
The actor reminiscing on retrospect looked back at how transitioning from TV to web was not easy because filmmakers saw him as a television actor. This directorial assumption limited him from being cast in acting parts. This is also the period when he played lead roles in eight daily soaps across genres, which at some point gave him a secure monthly check leading to doubt about reviving his film career.
“I couldn’t go for a meeting for Kai Po Chebecause I was too busy. I remember Mukesh Chhabra was casting, he kept calling me and I kept delaying it,” he said, expressing how his biggest mistakes in his career was to not have a meeting with casting directors because he was too focused on television.
