Even with excessive travel, the Indian cricket team displayed no relenting of their spirit throughout their return flight home as shown in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In the video, emotional reactions could be seen from key players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal. On their way there all players signed a special jersey and had great moments with trophy.
Despite the rain and tight security outside Indira Gandhi International Airport, large numbers of fans who had congregated there to welcome the team back warmly met them upon arrival.
This arrived following an impressive victory at the T20 World Cup held in Bridgetown which saw an end to a delayed journey due to Hurricane Beryl. The fans who some travelled very long distances arriving early in the morning were eager to begin festivities over 11 years of waiting for any ICC trophy that saw Team India win a title.
The BCCI facilitated their return with a charter flight that took off from Barbados under code AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup and landed in Delhi after direct 16 hours of flight.
Fans did not lose hope despite beefy security presence at the airport cheering each player with enthusiasm but specifically emphasizing on star batsman Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma and outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid.
Most importantly Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant danced energetically doing bhangra while Rohit Sharma holding the trophy and Virat Kohli got support from fans before they left playing ground.
After meeting Prime Minister who welcomed them first on return, they went to Mumbai for Victory Parade accompanied by Felicitation Ceremony at Wankhede Stadium where Secretary Jay Shah called upon public participation so as to celebrate this achievement together with Rohit Sharma’s address encouraging people to turn up on mass.
