Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was in top form as he shone in the English County Championship and was instrumental in the nine wiclets win by Northamptonshire against Leicestershire in their Division Two match.
Yuzvendra Chahal delievered 5 for 134 in the second inning and 4 for 82 in the first inning summing to nine wickets in the game. His bowling efforts were also instrumental in skittle out Leicestershire for 316 as which has a minimum bearing to chase by Northamptonshire.
Scott Currie’s one hundred and Chahal incurs a crucial 110 run stand with Tom Scriven (48) being in good nick did not fold over easily. Constantly under pressure, Chahal managed to get the crucial wicket of Scott Currie, apart from his other goals. He received Lewis Hill (14) and Liam Trevaskis (2) as dismissals as well.
Leicestershire started the final day with 69 for 4 and Chahal managed to hold on to their efforts during the day. The highlight was getting rid of Currie and with that, Leicestershire were down to 303 for 9. Northampton were left with 137 runs to score after Saif Zaib ,with figures of 2 for 61, wrapped up the innings by taking out Louis Kimber.
There was no denying the target within 31 overs to the Northampton batsmen. Luke Procter finished on 68 not out as George Bartlett also chipped in with an undefeated score of 54. Even after the fall of Gus Miller for a mere 11 runs, the winning target was not far from this team.
This is coming after Chahal last impressed against Derbyshire, where he had impressive bowling figures of 5 for 45 and 4 for 45. The bowling form of Chahal has greatly propelled Northamptonshire in the County Championship where they have progressed a great deal under the county.
