Basit Ali, the former Pakistan cricket player, recently criticised the International Cricket Council (ICC) following Babar Azam’s continuous topping of One Day International (ODI) rankings.

Another person whom Basit attacked was India’s rising star Shubman Gill that holds a third position in spite of his poor performance lately.

Basit is skeptical about this since he says that Babar has not been playing ODIs since November 2023 but still remains top ranked.

It was these ratings that sparked off Basit’s critics against them for having put Babar ahead of other Indian cricket stars such as; Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli .

Basit also asked if it was ICC’s plot to put pressure on Azam while discussing ICC ranking system on his YouTube channel.

“Babar Azam number one tha ICC ki ranking may thi, number two pe Rohit Sharma tha, number three pe Shubman Gill or no. 4 pe Virat Kohli. Mujhe zaroori nahi laga sab ke naam parhne ki baki jo bhi honge mujhe Travis Head aur Rachin Ravindra nazar nahi aye. Main sochta ho k ICC chahta hai k wo na karygaa babar azam uss ko khush rehna hai joo ab tak unka rank ha or unko apni rank chiye bas .Who gives these rankings? On what basis are Babar Azam and Shubman Gill there?” Basit told.

Notably missing amongst top players were those who were outstanding performers at the World Cup mentioned by Basit.

Also noteworthy is that during the world cup season held in 2023 each player such as Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and Australia’s Travis Head has managed to score three-four hundreds.

Additionally, even Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman scored a century each.

The previous ODI for Babar was at the World Cup. This included players like Rachin Ravindra , Quinton de Kock, Travis Head or Virat Kohli as seen in the World Cup. They went on to make three five hundred scores in the tournament .In case of Pakistani team, there were two centuries each by Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman. What kind of ranking do they give?”he replied.
