NEW DELHI: The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is gearing up for its third season, and a crucial step in the preparation process is the mini-auction scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru.
According to a report from Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the five franchises about the auction date and venue, allowing them to strategize and plan their squad compositions.
The mini-auction presents an opportunity for franchises to fill up to 19 slots, with a maximum of 14 Indian players and 5 overseas players. The available collective purse for all teams stands at Rs 16.7 crore, with each franchise allowed to spend up to Rs 15 crore on their squad.
Additionally, each team can have a maximum squad size of 18 players, with a limit of six overseas players.
IPL Auction: Will it be MS Dhoni’s ‘last hurrah’?
Following the retentions from the previous season, Gujarat Giants find themselves in a favourable position, boasting the maximum purse of INR 4.4 crore and four slots to fill. This financial flexibility could potentially allow them to acquire key players and strengthen their squad.
While the BCCI has not yet announced the specific window for the 22-match tournament, it is expected to take place between February and March. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as the defending champions, will be aiming to build upon their success and retain their title.
A total of 71 players have been retained by franchises so far, with 25 international players among them, establishing each franchise’s essential squad composition for the next tournament.
