New Delhi: The US State Department is yet to take a position on the investigation it launched regarding the alleged plot to kill Khalistan separatist leaders Gurpatwant Singh Pannu as the case remains pending in court, Pannun, himself an Indian-designated terrorist and an American-Canadian dual citizen. It stressed that due process must be followed and would not speak before then.
Matthew Miller, the spokesman for the U.S. State Department, answered questions at a press conference saying that he was invited by members of the media to make some clarification about alleged indictment made against Khalistani terrorism leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.”I am not going to do that because this is ongoing legal matter and I am not a lawyer so who has given you copies of these publicly returned indictments?”he said.
According to a Russian embassy diplomat in New Delhi yesterday ,only information from Washington was provided without any evidence being disclosed .These comments were echoed by Zakharova’s counterpart in Russia.”
In addition, the Foreign Ministry rejected all these accusations as “completely baseless”. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s MEA Major General Randhir Jaiswal has termed it as baseless and unsubstantiated allegations pertaining serious issues; he further described US Media reports as “speculative” and irresponsible”.
The Government of India appointed a high-powered committee to investigate.
This came even as Russia announced through its ministry of foreign Affairs via Maria Zakharova that it still wanted more hard evidence from Washington on whether any Indian had participated in the case or not.
The Official Spokesperson said: “Washington has yet failed to present any concrete evidence about involvement of Indians into planning assassination of General Panu based on available information we have. Speculating without facts is unacceptable.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters at a news briefing later on Wednesday.
