On completing his first season in the county circuit with great success, Chahal has returned to India with a view to starting training in connection with the upcoming Ranji Trophy due on 11 October. Chahal had a great time with Northamptonshire CCC, who regarded him as the best overseas acquisition in the past few years.
Chahal took 24 wickets across both another four day match and Odi’s with an average of 17, including three fives and two fours.
“That is a different level of cricket and very competitive County cricket. It also provided me a platform to demonstrate my abilities against quality opposition. With India scheduled to be on tour to England next year, I said that it was important to show how good I am,” Chahal said to TOI.
Besides doing his bit on the field, Chahal loves to assist the youth in learning the craft of cricket. Chahal said, “First of all I am thankful to Brindon sir for giving me an opportunity to play in county cricket and then the coaches of Rajasthan Royale club introduced me to Krish Patel an18-year of age cricketer of immense potential who is reaid to be the next big thing. Cricketers from this side of the world do not feature in global tournaments. I want to be him for a few years and help people like him. If I am required I am always there.”
Other Indian players are becoming aware of the fact that this exposure helps them improve their game and inject new elements that are not customary in India. Actually in the recent past cricketers like Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar, Prithvi Shaw and most recently Chahal went out in the hope of either getting back into the Indian team or securing their spot in the national side.
