NEW DELHI: Team India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir, who will begin his tenure with the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, recently expressed his desire for all players, including stalwarts Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma, to be available for all three formats.
Following that, according to reports, it is likely that Rohit may make himself available for the three ODIs against Sri Lanka, scheduled for August.
Given the limited number of one-day internationals India will play before the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, Rohit might choose to participate in the thre-match ODI series against the Islanders.
According to Cricbuzz, Rohit, currently on holiday in the US, was unavailable for confirmation but is expected to inform the BCCI of his availability soon.
If confirmed, Rohit will undoubtedly lead the side.
Bumrah and Kohli, however, are unlikely to feature in the squad, as both have been allowed rest for the Sri Lanka series.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are expected to return to the Indian side.
Team India is scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs in Sri Lanka from July 27 to August 7.
