Captain Shubman Gill and B. Sai Sudharsan batted together for over 200 runs in the opening partnership to help Gujarat Titans beat Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs in their IPL encounter last Friday. This victory has kept Gujarat’s hopes of qualifying for playoffs alive.
Sudharsan made a century in just 103 balls which comprised five fours and seven sixes while Gill made his first hundred goals of the season scoring 104 off 55 balls including six maximums.
The duo scored 210 for the opening wicket, equalling the record set by Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul in 2022.
CSK on the other hand got off to a poor start but Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34) and Moeen Ali (56 off 36) put on105-run fourth wicket stand, keeping them within reach of a win against GT.
However, it proved to be an unattainable goal for CSK who could only score196 in eight overs out of twenty allocated ones.
“You love watching those two (Gill & Sudarsan) and really like the way they play but it’s nice to be on the winning side. It’s nice to get a few wickets and I’m feeling a lot better physically. Having a back problem, it’s good that it’s better now and I will be fully recovered soon,” Rashid said post-match.
Although Mahendra Singh Dhoni played an impressive innings hitting26 out of11balls at the death, it wasn’t enough to save titleholders from defeat.
Dhoni produced some jaw-dropping moves with one hand that left Ahmedabad crowd stunned.
Rashid Khan was amazed by Dhoni as well as his fans when he helped his team take down two batsmen in his spell with gujarat titan spinners.
“I have played against him (Dhoni) and when he comes on and plays, it is a different feeling and it gives us a good energy and it is a pleasure to play with him,” Rashid added.
Mohit Sharma (3/31) was the pick of bowlers for Gujarat Titans.
