After a successful career in which he made 269 international appearances across all three formats, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, eliciting much love and admiration from fans and fellow cricketers through the video via X on which he released this news.
“With countless memories and gratitude, I am now closing this chapter of my journey in cricket. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!” Dhawan’s post captioned.
Under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan was a member of the Indian side that triumphed at the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013; however, he missed out on selection for the squads that won the World Cup in 2011 as well as T20 World Cup held earlier this year.
In Tests, Shikhar Dhawan scored 2315 runs with an average of 40.61 including seven centuries and five half-centuries in total after playing 34 matches. In white ball internationals, he played 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is scoring 6793 and1759 runs respectively. His ODI batting average stood at 44.11 while that of T20I stood at27.92.
All seventeen of his one-day international hundreds were amongst these totals while he also managed to hit thirty-nine fifty-plus scores along with five such knocks coming from Twenty-20s.
Playing for Delhi, Dhawan featured in 122 first class matches averaging44.26 per innings from which he accumulated8499runs including twenty-five centuriesand twenty-nine fifties.
Furthermore, his record includes more than three hundred List A games (302) where he amassed 12,074 runs at an average of about forty plus besides another 9797 T20 game runs (334).
