The captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur, spoke with authority on her teams’ desire to be the first Indian team to win a global title at the next ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
She, in fact, thinks that the weather in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be a blessing for the Indian team.
Since the conditions in Bangladesh have been politically unstable, the relevant authorities made sure that the slated tournament between October 3 and 20 was moved to the UAE.
“Whenever we play on this kind of stage (World Cup) there is always the urge to go out there and want to do well which we have always done in the past and this is definitely going to be that one step which will break the final curtain and go all the way,” Harmanpreet said while speaking to PTI videos.
On Tuesday, the BCCI informed that Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to captain the Indian women’s team during T20 World Cup. However, whether the venue has been changed for the tournament, unfazed remained the 35-year-old skipper.
In Harmanpreet’s opinion, the playing conditions in the UAE are not too different from that of India’s conditions.
The 35-year-old took the venue shift rather lightly and said that the weather such as it is in the UAE is not much different than the one in India,’ she said with confidence that her team would adjust to the new conditions. ‘We have not played much cricket in the UAE. There is going to be some similarity in the weather of the UAE with the Indian winter season.
‘We will check the conditions (there) and see what has been provided there and try and see how best we can fit ourselves to what is there as soon as we get there,’ added Harmanpreet who captained India in the final of the T20 World Cup 2020.
Harmanpreet voiced her wish of a bold showing by the team all through the World Cup, whether on the back foot or in the driving seat in all games.
‘As a team, we do accept the losses we incur and move forward by removing those hindrances which have been standing on our way or holding us back. If we can call it so, this time it will be more of positive aggression from us, may be for one World Cup at least,’ she said.
Harmanpreet was assured in the Indian bowling lineup, especially status of its subsequent game against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final. She expects that the squad will deliver when they are requested to do so during the World Cup.
I believe the bowlers are putting their hearts into coordination and teamwork and, fingers crossed, it is a World Cup where we tick all the boxes.”
Harmanpreet, who had led Mumbai Indians to the last edition of the Women’s Premier League title, urged that winning a World Cup requires concentration on the ‘now’ and not on the ‘later.’
“It is for us to go out there and play good cricketers within the present, which is quite always important. Whatever situation is in front of us…we will go there and access it at the earliest,” she signed off.
