While preparing for the first T20I match in Sri Lanka, scheduled on Saturday, Surya was seen chatting with Hardik Pandya.
However, even though Hardik lost his T20I captaincy to Surya, there were no signs of animosity. There was a separate fielding activity that took place and it was organized by T Dilip who still runs the department amid new coaching staff introduced by Gautam Gambhir.
Hardik and Surya still enjoy each other’s company irrespective of their positions in the team.
In a video posted by BCCI on Friday, Hardik and Suryakumar were seen having a laugh as Indian team trained. Throughout the interaction, head coach Gambhir couldn’t help but smile at the lighthearted moment.
“Fun session in Kandy today.. Quite a vibe in the group,” read the caption.
Sharma retired from international cricket after India won the ICC Cricket World Cup last month so Suryakumar replaced him as T20I captain.
The post however went to Yadav rather than Hardik owing to concerns about his consistent injury problems.
Conversely, he holds Hardik Pandya on high regards and said that his duties within the squad would not change
“He has been doing what he has always done since I came into this set up. He has been phenomenal for us. Hopefully he will continue doing what he did at the world cup,” he noted.
