Afterwards, Rohit Sharma who announced his decision to retire from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year in June, now only captains the white-ball cricket in 50-over internationals and his next assignment is the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Since winning the T20 World Cup, the captain has still been a center of attraction wherever he has gone. Be it his family vacation in US or during upcoming ODI leg of Indian tour to Sri Lanka fans have continued to show their love for Rohit and almost mobbing him for selfies and autographs. And such an incident took place in Sri Lanka which was recorded by a fan’s camera and later on went viral.
There is footage of Rohit, dressed in pads, descending stairs from a dressing room at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on his way to net practice. As Rohit walked out, one fan at the stand near pavilion started singing trying to draw attention.
Although not clearly audible what the fan was singing, there was mention of ‘Rohit Sharma’ that made the Indian captain stop and look back over his shoulder at him. He smiled as he then proceeded towards nets.
Both Rohit and Kohli decided to resign from T20 internationals after they won the T20 World Cup together in Barbados on June 29th; they are now back with Indian team having had some well-earned time off under Gautam Gambhir’s coaching.
Gambhir became head coach after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.
The first ODI match will be held this Friday at Colombo but others will follow suit on July 4th and July 7th at same venue.
India captured victory for 3-0 through Surakumar Yadav leading them for T20I series.
