After winning the one-off Test against South Africa, Captain of Indian Women’s cricket team Harmanpreet Kaur visited Tirumala Temple in Andhra Pradesh.
The players were accompanied to the temple by their colleagues, Renuka Singh, Shafali Verma, Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma. They appeared in typical costumes for their spiritual trip on Wednesday.
In a video, some of them entered into the temple while others were held back by those who wanted selfies.
The visit came after India’s comprehensive 10-wicket win over South Africa in Chennai where Shafali Verma and Shubha Satheesh guided India to overtake a modest total of 37 runs in just 9.2 overs. This was India’s second ever ten wicket victory in Test cricket with the first coming against South Africa at Paarl in 2002.
At one point Laura Wolvaardt’s century (122 runs) made Indian wait for this winning moment. Despite being bowled out at a score of 266 during their first innings, South Africa showed resilience on the resumption and scored up to 373 thanks to centuries from Wolvaardt and Sune Luus.
Nevertheless, successful wrecking of South African batting order such as that done by Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad resulted into a significant win.
The trip to Tirupathi was not only about thoughts but also it was an occasion for rejoicing and paying homage after they had battled hard enough going up against Chennai ahead of this One Day International series test match – A Cricket Blog by Anjimile Mtila Oponyo. With gratitude filled expressions as well as prayers; Harmanpreet and her teammates ended up marking another glorious series with serenity therein.
