The shortest format of cricket is now in transition for team India.
The Indian T20I cricket team made their way to Pallekele from Mumbai via Colombo on Monday, led by Suryakumar Yadav.
On Tuesday, the Indian cricketers had a practice session under Gautam Gambhir who took over from Rahul Dravid as the head coach in Sri Lanka series.
In some clips from their official X handle, the broadcaster of this series shared that the Indian cricketers arrived at the ground and went to the field for practicing.
Starting on July 27 and ending on August 7, Team India will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka.
For both T20Is and ODIs vice captaincy was given by national selectors to Gill. In both formats Pandya was relieved of vice-captaincy.
As per recent reports, the selectors have convinced Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to travel to Sri Lanka for three ODIs despite announcing retirement from T20I cricket lately.
Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from T20I cricket after Kohli’s announcement. These two players have also been included in the ODI squad which will travel with other members of Indian team to Sri Lanka.
If there are any doubts in your minds about why Ravindra Jadeja is not part of the ODI squad then you may want to read what Gambhir said after he named his squad at a press conference on Monday; “We have decided to rest Jadeja since we play quite a lot of cricket throughout this year.”
Riyan Parag has made both squads while Shreyas Iyer who didn’t get central contract earlier this year because he missed domestic cricket altogether is back in action.
