The voter turnout in the union territories of Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu was 10.13 per cent as of 9 am.
Prime Minister Modi Voting in Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote early in the morning at Nishan High School in Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad falls under the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is seeking a second term in Parliament.
The prime minister also urged eligible voters to vote in “record numbers” and said “their active participation will definitely liven up the election.”
Violence breaks out in West Bengal
Tensions erupted in Murshidabad’s Domkar ahead of the start of polling after a bomb was allegedly hurled at the residence of a local Congress leader. Violence was reported from some areas in Murshidabad district.
After the situation became tense, the Central Armed Police Force’s rapid response team rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
Soon after polling began, tensions rose in Rani Nagar, also in Murshidabad district, with a CPM stall agent forcibly evicted from an election stall. The CMP’s Murshidabad candidates claimed they were receiving threats hours before the polls. Similar accusations have been made by Dakshin Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, the Malda candidate of the BJP.
