Ahead of India’s T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Afghanistan on Thursday, former cricketer’s Aakash Chopra has given his views about the way Virat Kohli is performing. The belief is that if he can stay on the field for longer, he will start to play better.
Since then, Kohli’s struggle in the group stage has been evident from his scores of 1, 4 and 0 runs against Ireland, Pakistan and the United States consecutively.
Chopra emphasized if not because of opposition but quality as a player; Kohli should hit form again.
“I think Virat Kohli should come back into form against Afghanistan not because it is an easy opponent but because of his caliber and how well he has been in form coming into this world cup. There is hope here that the ball will go smoothly onto bat considering where they are playing at plus the sides’ boundaries aren’t much too big. I think he has overdone it,” Chopra was quoted by ANI as saying.
Moreover, the retired cricketer’s stated these dismissals during this World Cup have shown a rather overoptimistic approach which did not pay off.
“Against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, India’s last match Virender Sehwag tried to hit six on first delivery and got out. If you look at his innings during this world cup they show an overly positive approach which has failed him so far. I wish he spends some time in himself since Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq are doing very well besides there are good spinners. As long as he spends some time with himself there won’t be any problem with his performance,” said Chopra on JioCinema.
