After roundly failing to impress in the T20 World Cup of 2024 by Virat Kohli, the ex- Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has recommended a change of batting order of Kohli.
Kaif said that Rishabh Pant should open with Rohit Sharma and Kohli should go in at number three.
In an X’ video posted on , Kaif said,”I think Virat Kohli should bat at number three.”
These seaming conditions where batsmen find it difficult unlike Ipl flat pitches have been opening for him.. Here he plays good aggressive shots well but maybe here he shouldn’t play aggressively maybe he needs to play to his wicket save as well.”
Justifying why Kohli would be able to play his natural game at number three, Kaif further commented, “Virat Kohli will play his natural game at number three. He will have enough time to settle down and know what is going on. Scoring 50-60 runs is good for him. His stats at this position in previous World Cups are impressive. If Rishabh Pant can move from number five to number three, then he can also open from number three. You get a left-right combination with Kohli at No.3 and Suryakumar Yadav at No.4.”
Kohli’s struggles were evident in India’s Group A match against the United States when India-born USA bowler Saurabh Netravalkar got rid of him for a golden duck.
The left arm seamer bowled full length away from kohli who edged it off and Andries Gous took the catch behind stumps; this was unheard of during his first golden duck in T20 World Cups and second one in shortest form thus ending a pathetic run containing scores such as 1, 4 and 0.
Despite Kohli’s travails, India progressed into the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup with a seven-wicket victory over the United States. Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty and Arshdeep Singh’s four-fer were instrumental in India grabbing their third successive win.”
