Wrestler Vinesh Phogat is set to return to India alongside Aman Sehrawat, who secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Following the conclusion of the Games, the duo will embark on their journey back home. Their flight is scheduled to arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at approximately 10:30 am on Tuesday.
According to sources, “Vinesh Phogat is travelling to India tonight with Olympic bronze winner Aman Sehrawat and will reach Delhi at 10:30 am IST.”
Her remarkable performance led Vinesh out of the Olympic Games village yesterday and she was able to reach a final through a brilliant demonstration of her skills and competitive spirit.
However hopes were wrecked when she lost in her last match that could have given her a golden chance for a medal in women’s freestyle wrestling category under-50kg.
This disqualification arose from an additional weight of 100gms found on her body during the official weigh-in that took place on the day of finals competition.
She later appealed against her Olympic disqualification claiming joint silver medals in women’s under-50 kgs through Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
The interim award has now extended time by Sole Arbitrator Hon Dr Annabelle Bennett in Vinesh Phogat Vs United World Wrestling & The International Olympic Committee case until 5.00 PM on August 13th, 2024.
