Vinesh Phogat CAS Hearing Verdict Live Updates: As the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was set to render its decision on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification at the Paris Olympics, India’s sporting community waited tense ear.
Vinesh had in fact advanced to the final of the women’s 50kg freestyle category with three straight victories, including a defeat of Japanese wrestling icon Yui Susaki last week Tuesday, but she was not allowed to compete in the gold medal game against eventual champion Sarah Hildebrandt from the United States because she weighed 100 grams more than what is normally required at weigh-in which usually takes place in the morning.
Having appealed her case on Wednesday before CAS and asked for joint silver with Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez who lost to Vinesh but was promoted to the finals after her disqualification by officials.
On Thursday following her heartbreaking elimination from contention, Vinesh announced that she has thrown in the towel as far as wrestling is concerned since she does not have enough strength to continue fighting while icons in sports all over were sympathizing with her plight.
